Hi my name is Canny I'm a mother of 4 girls my husband an I always worked but never could afford insurance for our family but now it even worst because my husband been sick for about a yr an he can't work anymore he's going blind he can't see no more on one eye an he has a toe cut off already it just been so hard this few months my teeth r breaking little by little an I have five of my back teeth broken an there times that my my side of my ear an head hurts because of my teeth how bad it is. My husband teeth are chip in the front to please help us.
For 5 years I've thought that I was the only one......or at least felt that way. I'm a 32 year old guy, and since the age of 10 I have had teeth issues. Initially I fell off of my bike at age 10 and busted one of my front teeth out, root and all. Many, many, many Orthodontist visits follow to try to restore the tooth and gum but eventually the tooth had died and an implant was made. By age 18 it had broken right out, and without anymore dental coverage because it stopped once I was 18, I was unable to get it fix. As a result my confidence went down the tubes...I could no longer hold a job and the jobs in my area were all without benefits that would cover that kind of work.
Fast forwarding 9 years later, I'm 27 and after very little visits to the dentist for lack of money and/or coverage, Two of my molars had rotted to the nerve causing excruciating pain...they had to be removed. Fortunately for me I had managed to find a job with some coverage and used the entire allowed denomination for a years worth of dentists visit to have them removed and a flipper made to replace the hole.
Ever since that day I have taken decent care of my teeth, following all of the known rules and admittedly slacked occasionally on flossing for lack of having any. Now I'm 32, and in 5 years have had an increasing amount of tooth removals due to decay starting with my wisdom teeth, then on to what I'm dealing with currently which is the same thing happening to the other side of my upper molars, along with a third tooth which is absolutely scary to look because it has a cavity on the gumline. Whats different is ....My wife, daughter and I have since moved to be closer to my wifes family, I had to sacrifice my job to do so and literally start over, I was about 29 then. I wish I hadn't made that decision now as the coverage for dental was good at that job and I don't think I even fully realized that when we decided to pick up and move, but i don't regret it because my daughter has flourished being closer to more family members, before it was only my wife and I.
But that doesn't change my tooth issues...frankly as a family we are low income with no employment benefits. Living cheque to cheque and everyday that passes I know my teeth are getting worse. I have no one to ask to save the day for me and I have bad credit due to a student loan (what an idiot I am for using OSAP) so I cant even put some basic cleanings on credit. My extended family are dealing with financial issue of their own and are unable to help and my wifes family are basically in the same position. I don't know what to do because my gums continue to recedes and are ruby red, after my last extraction my wifes dentist told me I have severe periodontal disease and need to come in every 3 months for deep cleaning. I know that is the cure, but I cant afford the cure. No offense but I feel like I'm American when it comes to Dental help, nothing is covered and if you aren't insured its out-of-pocket and if you cant pay your turned away....that same dentist told me that they didn't do financed work so to even pay installments was out of the question. The icing on the cake is that there are no dentists in my immediate area that will, and I don't own a car.....I feel so hopeless, and in the meantime I'm afraid to eat anything even remotely hard.
